Burger King has once again taken a step to provide more ethical, humanely produced food.
The fast food giant that claimed to be the first to sell a vegetarian burger nationwide has committed to sourcing 100% of its eggs from cage-free suppliers and purchasing pork from suppliers that have pledged to phase out gestation crates for pigs.
“For more than a decade, Burger King Corp. has demonstrated a commitment to animal welfare and, through our BK Positive StepsĀ® corporate responsibility program, we continue to leverage our purchasing power to ensure the appropriate and proper treatment of animals by our vendors and suppliers,” said Jonathan Fitzpatrick, chief brand and operations officer of Burger King Corp. “We are proud to announce these new, industry-leading commitments that support meaningful standards of humane treatment in our U.S. supply chain.”
Burger King began phasing in cage-free products in 2007, and the transition to 100% cage-free eggs is expected to be completed in five years.
