Mayim Bialik Gets Good Reactions To Vegan Parenting

Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik‘s Ph.D is in neuroscience and not vegan parenting, but the childhood Blossom actress who grew up to keep fans laughing on shows such as The Big Bang Theory has a wealth of knowledge to share for moms and dads interested in packing tofu instead of turkey in their children’s lunch boxes (hint: find a vegan  pediatrician to back you up in diet decisions).

Bialik has an interview with VegNews magazine where she once again, delves into those tough questions every vegan or potential vegan parent wants answered, like “Are children born with an empathy for animals?” and “What do you do if they start requesting cheeseburgers?”

Of course, in the age of gossiping and finger pointing adults, there will always be the “other parents” who are certain seaweed will turn your child into the neighborhood monster. And how does Bialik recommend you deal with that issue?

“It’s kind of a mixed bag, you know? A lot of people don’t understand it, and feel judged even though I’m not judging and haven’t even opened my mouth aside from saying “I’m vegan.” Social stuff can be hard, but living in a part of the world where there are so many variations, we know kids who are gluten free, or have allergies—my little guy is allergic to soy and cashews. So I feel like being vegan is one more thing, but I feel very fortunate that especially in LA, if our boys go to someone’s house for a playdate, most parents know what vegan means, they know not to feed our kids certain things, and that it’s not funny to feed them things that aren’t vegan. The more information I have, the better informed a vegan I am to try to spread positive information.”
