Quantcast Vegetarian StarAmy Smart Takes A Bite Out Of Fleas With PetArmor

The weather’s getting warmer and every earth loving vegan wants nothing more than to spend every minute in the great outdoors right?

Okay, so after you’ve bought enough calamine lotion that it’s worth buying stock in the company and the insect bites on your limbs make you look like a Center for Disease Control alert because somehow smallpox has made it back, even the biggest Mother Earth hippie may decide to enjoy nature by watching her spider plant in the great indoors.

But if you think bug bites are annoying to humans, just think of all the poor four-legged people who have to endure them. And most cats and dogs don’t know how to buy stock. Actress Amy Smart is looking to help change that by serving as the spokesperson for a campaign partnering the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and PetArmor to rid shelter pets of fleas and ticks.

“As an animal rescue advocate and proud dog mom, I am so excited to be working with the ASPCA and PetArmor on this wonderful campaign that supports a cause I care so deeply about,” said Smart. “I encourage pet owners everywhere to participate in the Promise and help ensure all pets receive the protection they need

PetArmor will distribute 20,000 flea and tick treatments to shelter pets and pet lovers can help by visiting the PetArmor Facebook page and selecting a shelter that has a high incidence of fleas and ticks. They can also support the ASPCA’s national disaster relief efforts and get involved with their local shelter.

This year could be one where pets need help the most. According to Jody L. Gangloff-Kaufmann, an urban entomologist at Cornell University and the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program, mild winter conditions around the United States may have allowed bugs that normally die in freezing temperatures to multiply and we could see a greater increase in the number of fleas and ticks.
