Russell Simmons Discusses Argyleculture Clothing Line

A common complaint from vegan and ethical men is that there aren’t enough professional lines that happen to be cruelty free. That may have changed recently.
Russell Simmons will launch a line of men’s clothing at Macy’s stores called Argyleculture. The site for the brand is still under construction, but a look at some of the attire at Elle shows a variety of styles suited for the office, golf course or club.
Simmons spoke to Ecouterre about his new line, which keeps vegan principles he’s adhered to for years.
“We don’t use animal products, so no leather,” Simmons said. “We use cotton for the sweaters, not wool.”
“There are all kinds of alternatives to fur and a lot of creative alternatives to leather and all kinds of money to be made,” he added. “And there’s a white space, and as more people become more conscious, there is an opportunity to do a lot more things that are creative and different. There’s a big hole as more people are becoming more aware and would like to know that their products are less harmful to the earth and to animals.”
Simmons created another successful line of clothing, a hip-hop line called Phat Pharm, so it’s a good bet he’ll utilize the experience he gained from making that line successful to promote this vegan line as well.
