Russell Simmons was recently honored with a Stevie Award at the American Business Awards at the Mariott Marquis near Times Square in New York. Simmons won the honor of being the first person to receive the honorary Difference Maker Award.
With so much bad news about the ethics in business these days, it’s refreshing to hear someone who focuses on principles as well as profit. During the awards, Simmons took time to discuss the importance of keeping one’s values when offering solutions in the business world, which may require a little bit of creative thinking.
“It’s important to me that these creative people are recognized, that this creative path is taken, because business as usual will not suffice,” Simmons said.
“If you’re a vegan, don’t sell steak … and if you are and you own a steak company, find an alternative form of protein.”
The vegan, yoga enthusiast and animal rights activist is the co-founded of Def Jam record label; created hip-hop fashion lines Phat Farm, Argyleculture, and American Classics; has starred in reality TV shows and even written a book on financial and spiritual advice, Super Rich.
