Leona Lewis Supports Ban On Wild Animals In Circuses

Leona Lewis has written a letter to her MP asking to support a ban on wild animals in Britain’s circuses.
“I am shocked and outraged that there needs to be a debate about whether it is okay for wild animals to perform tricks in the big top,” Lewis wrote in the letter. “I add my voice to this campaign and to the World Society for the Protection of Animals, who is lending its support to an alliance of animal welfare groups campaigning for an end to this.”
Lewis joins former Celebrity Big Brother actress Chantelle Houghton in a move that is backed by the British Veterinary Association.
The BVA has stated, “the welfare needs of non-domesticated, wild animals cannot be met within the environment of a travelling circus.”
The vegetarian added she hopes others will join her in supporting such a ban.
“I hope that people write to their MP as I have, to ask them to vote for a ban when Parliament discusses it on June 23.”
