An annual art show benefiting Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will once again open its doors this weekend to expose dozens of creative artists, live music and a chance to speak with marine life activist and star of Animal Planet’s Whale Wars, Paul Watson.
The Sea No Evil Art show will take place at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, California on Saturday June 25th, 2011.
The band She Wants Revenge will be playing live at the show that requires a minimum donation of $10 at the door. For $100, a VIP ticket will get you a private meet and greet with Watson before the show, a signed poster, pre-view of the art and a Sea No Evil t-shirt.
Artwork from Sea Shepherd crew members Matt Kimura and Chad Halstead will be part of the show, as well as a piece from photographer Gary Stokes, who worked on the Sea Shepherd “Operation: No Compromise” campaign.
Captain Paul Watson, known for both his outspoken personality in the media, has often been mocked or criticized for some of the tactics used during his operations, which include rancid butter bombs and other tactics meant to thwart whalers and other fishermen from obtaining more catch. Watson has defended his methods, saying they are necessary given the serious threat to marine life.
“When they call me an eco-terrorist, I say, look, ‘arrest me or shut up’, you know, I’m not wanted for anything,” Watson said.
“You don’t walk down the street and see a woman being raped and do nothing. And you don’t stand there and watch whales die and do nothing but hang banners and take pictures.”
