Chantelle Houghton Gets Striped To Ban Wild Animals In Circuses

As a former Celebrity Big Brother star, Chantelle Hougton‘s been a reality TV actress under the microscope and knows it’s not always fame and glory. Maybe that’s why she wants wild animals who are watched by thousands every year in circuses in the UK to get a break from the life of fame and retire peacefully in a sanctuary or be left in the jungle.
Houghton recently posed on the streets of London to protest a failure of the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to ban circus animals, despite most groups that were consulted on the decision being in favor of such a ban, including the British Veterinary Association.
Houghton stood in front of the House of Parliament and became a caged animal behind bars that day, holding a sign that read, “The Cruelest Show on Earth. Ban Wild Animals in Circuses.”
Several countries have already successfully taken action against using animals in circuses. In 2009, Bolivia became the world’s first country to place such a ban. Two years later, China issued a similar ban.
The British Veterinary Association has declared that, “the welfare needs of non-domesticated, wild animals cannot be met within the environment of a travelling circus.”
