Actor Mark Ruffalo will be honored at Global Green USA’s 15th annual Millenium Awards, meant to recognize green celebrities who live by Global Green USA’s mission by “fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure world.”
Funds raised from the event go to Global Green USA’s initiatives to provide environmentally friendly housing and educational facilities in cities like New Orelans and Los Angeles.
Vegetarian Ruffalo is being honored for his committment to campaign against hydrofracking, a method of obtaining natural gas that has been implicated in both health and environmental issues, not to mention having the ability to set water on fire.
“By becoming an educated advocate and an outspoken activist on behalf of this issue and appearing before Congress, supporting the documentary GASLAND and leveraging the power of the media, he has brought national attention to an issue that threatens both the environment and public health,” writes Global Green on the event website. “Mark has further personalized his crusade by starting his own foundation, Water Defense, to educate the public about the threats posed to our supply of drinking water and provide information and tools that will inspire action. By using his platform as a celebrated actor to raise awareness and hold the energy industry accountable, Mark is raising the bar for his peers in the entertainment industry and beyond.”
Other honorees for the event that takes place Saturday, June 4 include actor Ed Begley Jr.
