“Dog Wars” Rep Claims App Benefits Animal Rescue Organizations

The creator of the highly controversial Android app Dog Wars is claiming the game was designed not to promote, but to raise awareness about dog fighting. Kage Games also claims all profits from Dog Wars will go to organizations that help animals.
Okaaaay.
“We are in fact animal lovers ourselves,” someone with the email of “pitboss@kagegames.com” wrote to the Los Angeles Times, according to BET. “This is our groundbreaking way to raise money/awareness to aid REAL dogs in need, execute freedom of expression, and serve as a demonstration to the competing platform that will not allow us as developers to release software without prejudgment.”
The anonymous emailer also stated he/she did not want to give his/her name in fear of animal rights activists.
While this does make Kage Games sound a little less evil, one has to wonder why they can’t accomplish awareness of dog fighting without glorifying it through a game? Using their creative minds, developers could have easily designed a game where users put their dogs in competitive shows for cuteness or taught them to play tricks for a prize. And why was this statement not made earlier when news of the app hit the press?
There are great ways to raise awareness about dog fighting. Pitting players’ dogs against each other in illegal and cruel activities that involve guns and police raids is not the best way to do it.
