Several vegan celebrities are having the pleasuring of receiving complimentary samples of what it called the world’s first vegan queso.

In honor of Earth Day, Food for Lovers, producers of the World’s First Vegan Queso, has been selected by celebrity gifting company, Distinctive Assets, to distribute the vegan cheesy substitute to celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Alicia Silverstone this week.

Vegan Queso is an animal-free cheese dip made with nutritional yeast, spices and other ingredients that is meant to pour over Mexican dishes like tacos, tostadas and enchiladas, as well as non-Mexican dishes that beg for a spicy cheese flavor like potatoes, salads or vegetables.

And how’s this for a change from mainstream snack food? There’s not an ingredient in Vegan Queso you can’t pronounce:

“Water, Tomatoes, Green Chili Peppers, Unbleached Flour, Nutritional Yeast, Salt, Distilled Vinegar, Mustard Seed, Citric Acid, Calcium Chloride & Spice. Contains Wheat.”

“We are excited that Distinctive Assets asked us to provide our vegan queso to these celebrities,” said Crystal Tate, CEO and Co-founder of Food for Lovers. “The thought of amazing vegan celebrities like Ellen and Alicia Silverstone trying our queso is just wonderful. It’s a great opportunity to share delicious vegan food. We hope they love it as much as we do!”

Vegan Queso will be arriving at the doorsteps of celebrities like Jeremy Piven, Tom Hanks, P!nk, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ed Begley Jr, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Bette Midler, Sting, Barbara Streisand, Alicia Silverstone and Cameron Diaz.

Vegan Queso is currently available at select Whole Foods and other natural foods markets, and can be ordered online through vegan Internet stores like Vegan Essentials, Cosmo’s Vegan Shoppe, Pangea Vegan Store, Karmavore Vegan Shop, Vegan Goods and Food Fight! Online.

In case you haven’t already heard, dairy’s not green. It takes enormous amounts of water and electricity to maintain a dairy farm and the cows on big farms are often have little room to move around and, as Mercy For Animals has uncovered again, are the subject of cruel abuse.

Make Earth Day 2011 greener by trying some vegan cheese to replace the organic one you’ve been pouring on nachos.
