Vogue‘s annual Shape issue tackles getting fit in time for bathing suit season.
This year’s Shape features advice from three vegan diet and fitness experts. Latham Thomas is a holistic health coach, healthy-lifestyle expert, and founder of Tender Shoots Wellness in New York City. Kathy Freston is the author of several vegan lifestyle books, including her latest, Veganist. And Marco Borges is an exercise physiologist and founder of 22 Days Nutrition in Miami.
A vegan perspective on diet and exercise? This fitness issue of Vogue may contain the best health advice ever!
Freston and Latham give advice for what goes into your body, while Borges tells how to move it.
Borges recommends 3-5 45 minute workout sessions every week to burn calories.
Latham advises against excessive drinking, which can lead to unwanted pounds.
And Freston says go vegan.
“A vegan diet helps you to lose weight in several ways, but here’s what I think is the most fascinating fact: Vegan food has a high thermic effect (calories burned as body heat during digestion), which amps up your metabolism. So when you eat food that is grown in the ground or on trees, you are literally stoking your metabolism. Of course, this doesn’t translate if you are eating junk food—candy and chips can be vegan, but you won’t see weight loss if you aren’t making smart choices.”
