“Martha Stewart’s Pies & Tarts” With Vegan Tart Recipe
Written by Vegetarian Star on March 23rd, 2011 in Books, Chefs, Food & Drink.
Martha Stewart has never shied away from vegetarian and vegan cooking in her kitchen. Because she raised a daughter who became vegetarian as a teen, she never had the choice.
But Alexis is an adult now, and Martha’s still giving veg some genuine attention. She recently requested vegans to sit in the audience for an upcoming show about veganism. And she’s included at least one vegan recipe in her new cookbook, Martha Stewart’s Pies & Tarts.
If you’re into baking sweets, but are interested in trying an animal-free treat, you can sample Martha’s vegan, dairy-free, no-cook Banana and Coconut Cashew-Cream Tart.
The 352 page book is filled with color photographs and Martha’s instructions for getting every part of the pie or tart just right.
There are also unconventional recipes such as those with pie crusts made of granola, coconut meat or vanilla wafers.
Most of Martha’s recipes could probably be made vegan. Dairy milk can be replaced with almond or soy, and vegan butters like Earth Balance function like the real product.
