Quantcast Vegetarian StarBlair Griffith “Miss Colorado” Crowns Homeless Animals As Winners

Blair Griffith is a beauty queen who’s Cinderella story resembles what happens after midnight and the fairy tale collapses.

Her mother had a heart attack and had to undergo several medical procedures which set the family back financially, eventually causing them to lose their home and move in with relatives. To make matters worse, Griffith’s job was with one of the Sak’s Fifth Avenue stores the company chose to close.

But despite these hard times, Miss Colorado still plans to compete in the Miss USA competition in June. Being a pagent contestant, Griffith knows competition can wreak havoc on someone’s well-being. That’s why she hopes to level the playing field for the millions of dogs and cats in shelters waiting for homes by writing an editorial encouraging adoption.

“I have been fortunate to be the recipient of many offers of assistance since losing my home, but most of Colorado`s homeless animals aren`t so lucky. It`s them we should feel sorry for. After all, an abandoned dog can`t ask to sleep on a friend`s couch for a bit, nor can a stray cat apply for social services. And as a result — for every lucky companion animal who has a cozy home, nourishing food and caring guardians — countless dogs and cats struggle to survive.”

“The solution begins with adoption. Adopting an animal from a shelter not only saves the life of that animal but also helps stop new animals from being bred while millions die.”

“Although the pet industry and organizations like the American Kennel Club promote the sale of expensive “purebred” animals, mixed-breed dogs and cats are every bit as loving and loveable as their pricier counterparts, and they`re less prone to the health problems — including hypothyroidism, epilepsy, cataracts, allergies and hip dysplasia — that frequently afflict inbred animals.”

A shelter animal passed over for one in a pet shop or breeder loses way more than a crown.
