PETA’s “Taking On Tyson” For Racing Pigeons

On Monday, Mike Tyson found protesters from PETA outside his home.
The activists are unhappy about his new Animal Planet series which debuted last week, Taking On Tyson, which features the boxing champion immersed in the sport of pigeon racing.
As always, there are two sides to the story.
PETA says the birds are raced in adverse weather conditions and often become sick and injured during the journeys that are often hundreds of miles.
Karen Clifton with the American Racing Pigeon Unions says racers invest in the birds by spending money on medical care. But that may be another problem.
When the birds are ill, medications must be administered. Drugs used on animals, especially in settings some feel wouldn’t normally be necessary, are a growing concern among environmentalists who worry their use can spark resistance. In the U.S. alone, 80% of antibiotics are used on farm animals, not humans.
PETA has also expressed concern about the cages the birds are kept in when they’re not racing, which leave them little room to move around.
What’s your take? Is Mike Tyson still in need of growth and development to understand that a serious vegan also considers his effects on animals, even when he’s not eating them?

this seems a bit unfair to me. Mike Tyson does just great by ditching the meat and is the new vegan kid on the block, so to speak.
If PETA feels that Pigeon Racing is worth the time and energy to campaign against , the right place to have a demo would be at any Pigeon Racing Society, and not at the house of a vegan individual who has some birds and actually doesn’t race them, because this whole tv segment seems rather a show and not real.
Also, it’s unfair because PETA uses celebs for their campaigns that aren’t veggie and some of the celebs PETA uses for their campaigns are notorious FUR promoters like Dita Von Teese.

So instead of attacking vegan Tyson it’s time for PETA to ditch the fur hags, that’s what i think.
