Bobby Flay “America’s Next Great Restaurant” Contestant Vegetarian Optimistic

Bobby Flay is the host of a new reality TV cooking series that pits aspiring restaurant owners against one another in search for America’s Next Great Restaurant.
All the great chefs of today know there’s an increasing number of people who are looking to add plant-based meals into their lives, even if they’re not full time vegetarians.
Which is why we think it’s kind of silly for MSNBC to bash one contestant on the show for thinking vegetarian dining is the future of America.
From MSNBC:
We feel sorry for the contestant who believes vegetarian dining is the future of America, though. He thinks 15 percent of the population eats veggie, but really, it’s less than 3 percent. Meat may be murder, but it sells.
Sure, the actual percentage of Americans who follow a strict vegetarian diet may be 3% or approximately 7 million people. But we feel sorry for a writer who doesn’t bother to do his research before opening his big mouth that is stuffed with chicken wings.
A study conducted by Vegetarian Times titled Vegetarianism in America found that 10% of U.S adults, or 22.8 million people said they largely follow a vegetarian diet (the cheaters here and there).
That’s at least 13% of America’s veggie future.
Add that to the 5.2% or 11.9 million people who were meat eaters but described themselves as “definitely interested” in following a vegetarian based diet in the future.
Combine these numbers with the 0.5% or 1 million people who are already vegan.
There may be lies, damned lies and statistics. But these stats only serve to reinforce the truth: America is ready to reduce its meat intake. America’s next great restaurants had better get ready.
America’s Next Great Restaurant premiers March 6 at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Guy sounds like an ass. Even if there isn’t a huge percent of full time vegetarians, even the heavy meat eaters I know are cutting back or doing ‘meatless mondays’
