46565, NORTHLEACH, GLOUCESTERSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM - Tuesday November 16 2010. FILE PICTURE DATED Saturday October 23 2010. Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged and will marry in 2011, Clarence House announced today. The announcement came after speculation reached fever pitch following a visit by Kate's parents to the Queen's Scottish estate last month. The invitation was seen as a clear sign that the couple were poised to announce they were marrying. They have been together for eight years and have recently been spending much of their time in north Wales where William is a search and rescue pilot. Their wedding, scheduled for 2011, will be the biggest royal event since the wedding of William's mother and father. Most fashion, wedding and gossip columnists will have advice for Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s upcoming wedding in April. But the Telegraph’s Tamsin Blanchard has taken planning a step further from genre of flowers, dress design and cocktails.

Imploring the Prince and his fiancee to have a green wedding, Blanchard suggests a vegetarian lunch for the banquet, eco-friendly gowns and other dress by designers like Emma Watson and leather-free shoes from Stella McCartney.

These items are a start, but green weddings can go beyond food and fashion. The venue choice, for example, can cut down on car emissions, electricity and other energy used.

The Knot explains that holding a wedding and reception in the same place can reduce travel for the couple and guests. And plan for a Spring, Summer or nice weather date so the ceremony can be held outside, eliminating most, if not all, heating, air and light needs.

From The Knot:

“Traditional spaces, such as hotel ballrooms and fancy resorts, tend to use loads of electricity, water and other typically not-so-earth-friendly products in order to put on these ultra-glamorous affairs. Get married outdoors — rain or shine — on a farm or in a meadow and skip the electricity or running water. There are tons of beautiful botanical gardens, hilltops and farms that offer modern conveniences, like sinks and toilets, so you don’t have to sacrifice these comforts. You’ll still be helping the earth because you’re letting the sun provide all the lighting.”

What’s your eco-friendly tip for Kate and the Prince?
