Surfer Anastasia Ashley was recently featured on MTV’s World of Jenks, a documentary that explores the lifestyles, views and careers of different people.
Ashley is a vegetarian who’s done a PETA ad for the diet and lifestyle, Ocean Creatures are Too Beautiful to Kill.
World of Jenks followed her as she prepared for the 2010 US Open of Surfing in August.
“I always felt tired when I used to eat meat—I got sick of that,” Ashley explained to Peta2 during an interview. “Also, I wanted to start a serious training/nutritional program for my surfing competitions. I tried it out (not eating meat) and loved it—I felt so healthy and energetic. I’ve never looked back since!”
More from the Peta2 interview:
What would you tell your fans about the importance of having compassion and getting active to help animals?
I think it’s very important to stand up for what you believe in. … I think people should try and help, even if they think they can’t do much, because every little thing helps!
Are there any animal issues that you feel strongly about (e.g., factory farming, fur farming, animal experimentation, etc.)? What is it about that particular issue that affects you?
I think testing cosmetics on animals is completely wrong. I think that maybe huge cosmetics companies make enough money to hire humans. I also think that it’s ridiculous to be trying out a product meant for humans on animals.

No offense to the girl who rescued horses, but this girl is a REAL animal activist as far as I’m concerned.
