Quantcast Vegetarian StarCrystal Bowersox Chose Conflict-Free, Ethical Ring For Wedding

Crystal Bowersox has revealed more details of her eco-friendly wedding to People. Besides wedding in a cotton and hemp gown and patronizing a vegan friendly bakery that uses local and organic ingredients, Bowersox and her fiance, Brian Walker opted not to use traditional diamond rings to avoid supporting the unethical, bloody side of the industry.

“There are no diamonds to be found as we don’t believe in the violence and injustice that occurs within the diamond trade industry,” Bowersox told People.

Instead, Bowersox and Walker said “I do” with 1.1-carat princess cut ruby ring designed by Walker and crafted by Chicago’s Traci Coughlin and Steve Quick Jewelers.

More details of the wedding can be found in this week’s edition of People, which hits the stands Friday.

We’ve featured eco and people-friendly jewelry, Brilliant Earth, which sources its diamonds from conflict-free Canada, before. Several other companies take the stand against selling stones linked to violence, war and inappropriate child labor like Chicago’s Leber Jeweler, which also offers diamonds sourced in Canada, fair-trade gemstones and recycled reclaimed gold and platinum.

C5 is a unique company who’s trade slogan is adding a 5th “C” to the four basic diamond quality rules of cut, carat, clarity, and color. “Consciousness” means C5 offers jewelry made in the United States from recycled and/or lab created materials.
