Skin Trade, a documentary on what goes on behind the scenes in the fur industry, is scheduled to be available on DVD September 14th, 2010.
Produced by Shannon Keith, animal rights attorney and founder of Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME), a nonprofit animal-advocacy group, Skin Trade is a definite must for activists looking for tools to educate others on what animals turned into fashion endure, but as Ecouterre points out, it shouldn’t necessarily be watched with a bowl of popcorn or your own pet in your lap as its graphic scenes are not for the faint of heart.
“Raw, brutal footage from fur farms in the United States and abroad shows animals being maimed and tortured in traps, as well as subjected to electrocution and fatal beatings. (This writer will never look at her cat in the same way again.)”
Skin Trade includes commentary from both famous fashion designers like Todd Oldham and other celebrities like Jorja Fox.
The film, for which the trailer can be viewed below, premiered in Los Angeles this summer.
