.
As promised, we’re giving away one free copy of the The Dorm Room Diet by Daphne Oz. Daphne’s book is full of tips to help you stay healthy while being kind to the Earth and the animals. Every day for the next week, we’ll bring you a tip from Daphne’s book. For a chance to win the book, you have to give a tip back.

To enter, simply leave a comment on a post with a tip letting us know how you stay healthy, like what you eat or how you exercise. It can even be a spiritual or charitable practice you do that leaves you feeling great physically and psychologically.

You can enter this today, Thursday and Friday, then we’ll be taking a break on the weekend. Next Monday, the contest starts up again and wraps up on Thursday at midnight Pacific Time. Winners will be chosen randomly and notified via email on Monday, August 23, 2010.

Only one entry per post is allowed, but you may give a tip every day for every post written with a tip. So if you’ve got seven ways to teach everyone to stay healthy, come back every day and give your advice! And now, for today’s tip:

Some people may think bread is the enemy, but according to “The Dorm Room Diet,” studies show that eating a small  piece of whole wheat or whole grain bread dipped in a good fat like olive oil (no butter) actually helps you eat less.

So break bread and dip before you even think about tipping for the meal and you’ll be asking for a take out bag as you’ll surely have enough left for lunch tomorrow.

That’s the tip of the day. What’s yours?

Fruits such as strawberries and raspberries help to burn up to 30% more fat during exercise. Almonds also combat fat build-up. So stash up on these fat fighting treats!

Drinking TONS of water through out the day, and eating a clean vegan diet keeps me clear headed and ready for anything!

If you have a window/porch you can grow strawberries, tomatoes and herbs in pots. Also, community gardens, and some local parks will let you rent a spot for your own garden.
CSA (Community supported agriculture) is also a GREAT program!
Farmer’s markets are fun, and a great way to meet and volunteer (and get free veggies!!). 🙂

I use tempah for browned ground beef subsitute or whatever flavor you want to make it. I have used it for a vegetarian sheppard’s Pie. Brown crumbled tempah, season to taste, I use a faux-beef flavored bouillon cube or paste dissolved in water from spinach or other vegetable; Prepare mashed potatoes, Cut corn, or fresh cut corn from the cob. Layer the corn first, then browned crumbled tempah, then mashed potato, cover with shredded sharp cheese or cheese of choice. Bake 350 degrees, 30 minutes or until bubbly.
