Joanna Lumley has launched a vegetarian chutney that will benefit the Gurkha Welfare Trust, which provides medical, financial and other assistance to Gurkha ex-servicemen and their dependents.
Lumley collaborated with chefs from British food company Sharwood to create the limited edition Sharwood Mango & Kashmiri Chilli Chutney.
The chutney was launched at the Harvey Nichols department store last week and will be available in supermarkets in the UK in September.
According to the UK Express, Lumley wanted to include Kashmiri Chilli because the ingredient is from her birthplace.
“I have been addicted to hot spices since my childhood in the East and the Sharwood’s chefs have helped realize my dream of creating a flavoured chutney with chilli from Kashmir, where I was born.”
“I am delighted to be introducing this delicious new chutney to the British public as well as supporting the Gurkha Welfare Trust, an organisation close to my heart.”
Kashmiri chilli powder is a dark, red colored spice often used in Indian dishes and gives food the deep, red color of paprika.
