Elle MacPherson Never “Knowingly” Used Endangered Rhino Horn Powder
Written by Vegetarian Star on July 7th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Models.
Elle MacPherson has responded publicly after an interview where she applauded the benefits of Rhino Horn powder, something obtained from the horn of an endangered animal in a painful and cruel manner.
Like everyone who gets caught in an undesirable act, MacPherson is pleading ignorant. The model told news.com.au she “never knowingly consumed or encouraged the use or consumption of any products which contain material derived from endangered species”.
She added she felt remorse for “any distress or offence that her banter with an interviewer might have caused” and that although she respects Chinese medicine, she is “fundamentally opposed to any activity which is detrimental to the protection of endangered animals.”
Interesting twist. Many news reports are saying MacPherson jokingly praised rhino horn. Did MacPherson completely make up the story? Or is a careful wording of phrases like “never knowingly” allowing her to deny purposely taking part in such a cruel and illegal activity?
I did use rhino horn powder from an endangered animal. I did not use rhino horn powder from the endangered animal.
