Ellen DeGeneres Hot Wing Hotspot, Chicago Diner, Turns 27

The Chicago Diner in Chicago, Illinois is celebrating its 27th anniversary this week with specials on food, gift bags with free veggie goodies and more.
The restaurant with the slogan, “Meat-Free Since ’83” is completely vegetarian and almost entirely vegan, featuring meatless versions of classic diner foods like burgers, steak, breakfast foods, pastas and desserts.
Ellen DeGeneres is so much a fan of the diner’s vegan hot wings that after trying them in the Windy City, she had some Fed Exed to her studios in California later.
The hot wings are made from seitan and come in barbecue or hot and spicy style with ranch dressing.
Part of the celebration includes a few menu items available at 1983 prices like various beers and wines, the diner burger, black bean burger, gryos, the Radical Reuben and the Philly Steak.
The hot wings aren’t on the ’83 price menu, but they won’t break the bank if you stop by Chicago’s vegetarian food hot spot on Halsted this week.

The Chicago Diner is a wonderful local institution. They started serving meat-free dishes way before it was commonly available. Great people, wonderful food! They catered my vegan wedding and people couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved the food.
