Obamas Host Indian Prime Minister Singh At The White House

Barack Obama and Michelle were set to host the very first state dinner banquet for visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

According to the UK Times Online, Singh is an abstemious vegetarian and the menu looks to be accommodating him quite nicely.

Although we were hoping for a total veg (damn those green curry prawns), Prime Minister Singh and the rest of the guest will have plenty of plant based items to choose from.

It is very sad that true Indian cuisine was not enjoyed at the White House dinner with Prime Minister Singh and his wife. Vegetarian Indian cuisine is the most sophisticated cuisine in the world, encompassing hundreds of wonderful dishes and the most delicious sauces ever.

There are numerous master Indian chefs in the U.S. who could have been called on to prepare a vegetarian Indian feast. Instead a chef with northern European nouvelle cuisine was chosen to create a very strange menu indeed, and he could not force himself to leave out the shrimp.

I have to be glad that they at least gave a wave to vegetarianism, but it was hardly heartwarming to me as a vegetarian. It was an opportunity lost to make the dinner truly enjoyable for the Prime Minister without asking him to watch formerly living creatures being eating.
