Quantcast Vegetarian StarAvril Lavigne Is Pepperoni Eating Vegetarian In Canada

Z100s Jingle Ball 2007 - Show

Avril Lavigne has been known to go and make things complicated when it comes to her status as a vegetarian, but this really takes the vegan cake.

In her hometown of Napanee, Ontario in Canada, at La Pizzeria Pizza and Spaghetti House, there’s a pizza named after her. Avril was a regular there, eating lots of slices of mushroom, olive, and pepperoni pizza. Yes, pepperoni.

And although Avril has associated herself with being vegetarian, she still rides the roni when she visits home, according to pizzeria co-owner Bill Kosmopoulos.

“She still has pepperoni on it,” said Bill, referring to the pizza Avril eats when she stops by occasionally.

This story is sorta reminiscent of vegetarian Alec Baldwin joking around with the New Yorker saying he shot and smoked deer meat and ate it every morning. Only this story sounds true.

“In East Hampton, I’m a nudist and I eat meat,” Baldwin—a vegetarian—had said before my visit, expanding on the idea that he lived a quite different life on Long Island than he did in New York. “I shoot deer with a bow and arrow. I smoke the deer meat and eat it every morning with my eggs and toast. I am a homosexual. I listen to rock music, loud.”

Insert Avril’s name and change a few of the specifics and you get:

“In Napanee, I chow down on the pepperoni and live a quite different life than I do in the states.”

It may be one of those things where eating it reminds her of growing up and gives her good memories. If she only does this every once in a awhile (she doesn’t live in Canada anymore), and sticks to a vegetarian diet the other 99% of the time, I can’t be too hard on her.

  2. Sara Says:

If she really cared David she wouldnt eat it.

  3. grant Says:

whether you’re hard on her or not, david, her eating pepperoni is obviously hard on the animals whose decomposing carcases make it.

  4. Callie Says:

Who cares whether or not she eats meat? Whatever happened to accepting people as they are? Sara and Grant, you are way too harsh on her. You can’t tell me that once in awhile you slip up on the whole meat thing! Cut her some slack, chill out and don’t have a cow! XD

  5. leanne Says:

she’s a phoney. she can’t have any care for animals as her perfume product is owned by proctore and gamble, who are animal testers. so whether she says she is or doesn’t.. she’ll never be respected by me

I agree with David, that we shouldn’t judge others too harshly and she’s doing her best 99% of the time. It’s all we can do… But Callie, when you’re a committed vegetarian/vegan, no, there are no slip ups… you just care too much that slip ups aren’t even something you consider or worry about… it would be like saying, “I’m a human, but occasionally I dabble in a little cannibalism now and then…” No, we just don’t do it. We care too much about other living beings to eat them. Not judging Avril, I still think she’s doing the best she can and that’s all any of us can do, but no-vegetarians in general do not “slip up” and eat something they generally find revolting.

Is there such a thing as being a little pregnant? No, and you’re either a vegetarian or you’re not. There’s no in-between. Avril is not.

  8. Phoebe Says:

I agree with David, it may just be something that she does every now and then but not on a regular basis. She mostly sticks to the Macrobiotic Diet and this includes a small amount of fish but apart from that it is vegan. I am a vegetarian and I believe that if you are really committed that you will not slip up but she is a human being who has the right to make her own decisions. Lay off her a bit, yes maybe she isn’t a very committed vegetarian but there is nothing we can do to change that so just get over the fact that she eats meat occasionally.

  9. Phoebe Says:

And I am from England so excuse the time difference 😛

  10. Melissa Says:

Why does everyone care? What purpose does is serve to care? Instead of wasting energy caring about other, care about yourself, your own body and how you treat OUR environment. AND get a life of your own.

I disagree. Someone can be a vegetarian or vegan and have a few slip ups. She isn’t doing this twice a week. At worst or “wurst,” Avril might eat sausage three times a year. The rest of the year, she eats cleanly, her money goes to vegan/vegetarian restaurants and food products, etc. Condemning her harshly makes a few vegan/vegetarian people rightfully earn the negative “we look down on you” stereotype for the majority of people employing the diet for athletic performance, personal beliefs, weight loss, being camera ready fit or insert a mix of valid reasoning (here). And anyway, the proper way for someone to maintain a solid vegetable centric diet is by allowing them not to feel constricted by media or peer pressure. Blogs do count as a media format. I myself eat a mostly vegan diet and don’t eat cheese but enjoy a hearty dairy soup from time to time. Does that make me not vegan the other 355 days of the year? Noooo. I did a vegan cookbook, OK. I can eat whatever I want when I want. Leave the girl alone. I understand where she’s coming from. The difference is her rare cheats are a couple slices of sausage pizza whereas mine involve milk or delicate dairy creams.
