Vegetarian Prince Fielder Crowned Home Derby Champion
Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports.
Prince Fielder took some criticism when he went vegetarian last year.
Fans who wanted better performance on the baseball field were quick to blame any mistake on the lack of meat in his diet and critics were quick to point out that, like Ruben Studdard, Fielder’s tofu and veggies weren’t making him much thinner.
Those critics can take their words and shove it, as the Milwaukee Brewers first baseman has shown real athletes don’t need meat and has been crowned Home Derby Champion in the all-star competition.
Fielder won the title by defeating Nelson Cruz of Texas in the final round 6-5 and hit 23 homers in the three rounds of competition. One of Fielder’s homers was a 503-footer, the longest one of the night.
Wonder if he celebrated with his favorite pesto pasta toss that evening?
