Kimberly Elise Can “Hit The Floor” Dancing On Veggie Burgers Alone

Kimberly Elise plays a mother reemerging into the scene of pro basketball dance teams after her daughter joins the squad in the new Vh1 series Hit the Floor.
As with many vegetarian and vegan actors and actresses, there’s bound to be a few moments on a show where eating scenes require a bit of creativity.
For Elise, the solution was never to pretend to eat meat or pick the most carnivorous plant-based burger to consume while the rest of the cast ate dinner.
Instead, Hit the Floor creators had her announce to them — and anyone watching the show at home — that she’s a proud vegan.
Elise told Vegetarian Times:
“The producer, director, and I were discussing a dinner scene with the prop person, and knowing I’m vegan they suggested we use veggie burgers since they look like “real hamburgers.” I asked, “Why do they have to look like ‘real hamburgers’? Why can’t they be vegan burgers and we say that?” My producer, James LaRosa, who’s not vegan, chimed in, “I agree! Let’s make the character vegan.”
When it was time for the actress who is a supporter of labeling GMOs to make the switch from vegetarian to vegan, it was hard because she “didn’t like dairy anyway.”
