Cloris Leachman Wants Tournament Of Roses Parade To Remove SeaWorld

Cloris Leachman has reached out to officials of the Tournament of Roses parade, asking that they remove the SeaWorld float from the event.
Leachman, a vegetarian and animal welfare advocate who was the grand marshal of the 2008 parade, wrote a letter asking those in charge of the parade not to consider an organization where many of the animals don’t get to live a long, natural life as the 86-year old has.
Leachman wrote:
“Many orcas at SeaWorld have been confined for decades to tanks that, to them, amount to nothing more than glorified bathtubs. They have been deprived of everything that is natural and important to them and are forced to swim in endless circles, far away from their families. It’s no wonder that orcas at SeaWorld have never lived long enough to die of old age. (And as someone who has lived a long, eventful life, I can vouch for the fact that they’re missing out.”
The park know for its whale exhibits has not only come under fire from animal rights groups. Government regulatory agencies have also cited and fine the park for its safety violations against both the animals and employees.
