Is a vegetarian in a Thanksgiving parade like a…a turkey sitting down to eat at the Thanksgiving table?
Some in South Dakota think so.
Joan Jett was chosen by representative’s of the state’s tourism industry to be on the Mount Rushmore American Pride float in the annual holiday parade.
Members of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association think the decision is plain fowl.
“South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association is very concerned that the South Dakota float would be featuring a prominent vegetarian on the Thanksgiving Parade float,” Jodie Anderson, the executive director of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association said. “We hope that future floats would support not only the tourism industry but also agriculture.”
The singer and musician has been a vegetarian for years and has become just as popular for her PETA ads promoting a plant-based diet as she has for her hit tunes.
A representative from the parade said it recruits famous people for the event based on their popularity as artists, rather than personal or political views.

As a fellow South Dakotan I whole heartedly approve of this choice. Not everyone in this state kills and eats meat regardless what the cattlemens association chooses to believe.
