Forest Whitaker player a White House butler who spent just as much time observing key figures and events during his three decade tenure in the Oval office as he has taking care of the premises in Lee Daniels‘ The Butler.
Daniels has nothing but praise for the longtime vegetarian actor who’s worked with PETA on animal rights campaigns.
He described his presence during the film’s audition as one so calm, it made him consider adopting a plant-based diet as well.
“Can you imagine? He came in and read with Oprah and he’s such a humble, honest man,” said Daniels. “Maybe I need to put the pork down and become vegan, too.”
Whitaker’s character Cecil Gaines is based on real life Eugene Allen, who served as a butler in the White House for eight presidential terms from 1952 to 1986.
The Butler will be released by The Weinstein company on August 16, 2013.
