Bill Clinton Discusses Vegan Diet With AARP Magazine

Bill Clinton discussed the diet that is keeping him healthy in his sixth decade of life with AARP, the premier lifestyle and information magazine for senior citizens.
Like many readers of the publication, one of Clinton’s main motivations for adopting a healthier lifestyle was to enjoy his future grandchildren.
“I just decided that I was the high-risk person, and I didn’t want to fool with this anymore. And I wanted to live to be a grandfather,” said Clinton. “So I decided to pick the diet that I thought would maximize my chances of long-term survival.”
Several cardiovascular procedures and the advice of a few famous physicians who advocate a plant-based diet have kept him working toward that goal and have motivated him to continue eating grains, legumes, vegetables and other heart healthy foods.
If you think Clinton is a former meat and potatoes guy, you’re wrong.
When it came to his weaknesses, he was a dairy man.
“The main thing that was hard for me actually — much harder than giving up meat, turkey, chicken and fish — was giving up yogurt and hard cheese.”
“I love that stuff, but it really made a big difference when I did it.”
