Quantcast Vegetarian StarVegetarian Lizard Named For The Doors Jim Morrison “Lizard King”

Jim Morrison

An extinct lizard has been named after the late Jim Morrison of the former rock band The Doors.

Barbaturex morrisoni roamed the land in South East Asia 35 million years ago. He was over six feet long, one of the largest plant-eating lizards ever recorded.

It has been nicknamed “The Lizard King” by the researcher who studies such creatures.

Jason Head from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln explained how The Doors music was the inspiration behind the name.

“I was listening to The Doors quite a bit during the research,” he said. “Some of their musical imagery includes reptiles and ancient places, and Jim Morrison was of course ‘The Lizard King’, so it all kind of came together.”

A lizard is normally the prey of other animals, but other scientist speculate that its large size enabled it to thrive on Earth with a multitude of other species.

And who needs meat to grow big and strong?
