Captain Paul Watson: Interview with a Pirate features the life, work and beliefs of one of the most famous and often controversial figures in environmental activism.
Lamya Essemlali, executive director of Sea Shepherd France joined Paul Watson in 2005 and continued to work with him in several campaigns at sea. Essemlali writes Watson’s story from a series of questions and answers on everything from marine life to veganism.
When aboard his ship for a mission on the seas, Watson requires his crew to eat entirely vegan.
Asking for anything less would be considered he calls the “ultimate form of hypocrisy.”
“Nobody can legitimately claim to be a marine ecologist and conservationist while continuing to eat fish,” he said.
From his attempts to stop whaling in the Southern Ocean on Animal Planet’s Whale Wars to his arrests for his activism to criticizing traditional environmental groups like Greenpeace, there is never a dull moment in Watson’s media life and the book is sure to follow the same course.
