“Downton Abbey” Cookbook One Of 2012 Unhealthiest

The Unofficial Downton Abbey Cookbook by Emily Ansara Baines is just one of the five unhealthiest cookbooks of 2012 as declared by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine.
One serving of one recipe from the book, “Squab with Fig Foie Gras,” is said to contain more cholesterol than 10 Big Macs and as much fat as 12 tablespoons of lard.
“It’s a nice book, but all of the foods inside it are laden with high-cholesterol ingredients — creams, eggs, butter, sugar, oil,” explained Marsha Hargreaves, a Savannah, Georgia nurse who leads a vegan group in the area.
The other four books on the PCRM’s list all contain meal ideas with the typical culprits named in health risks, including processed meats and high sodium content.
Fans of the aristocratic Crawley family can still get closer to emulating their favorite characters by attempting to swap vegetarian or vegan ingredients for those called for, as Hargreaves did for another book on the PCRM’s list, Southern Living’s SEC Tailgating Cookbook.
Taking a classic brownie recipe, Hargreaves exchanged a few ingredients to remove almost all fat and added extra protein and fiber.
See Hargreaves changes to the “So Good Brownies” and learn what other 2012 books that might not be a great addition to your kitchen unless you’re a master at veganizing recipes at Savannah Now.
