Bill Clinton Could Be Vegan And President Of France
Written by Vegetarian Star on October 2nd, 2012 in Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian, Politicians.
Bill Clinton was talking to Piers Morgan on the requirements for presidential candidacy when he remarked that he could be the president of France for several reasons.
“There are only two countries I’m eligible to run for the leadership position is if I move to Ireland and buy a house, I can — I can run for president of Ireland, because of my Irish heritage.
“And because I was born in Arkansas, which is part of the Louisiana Purchase, any person anywhere in the world that was born in a place that ever was part of the French empire, if you move to — if you live in France for six months and speak French, you can run for president.”
French journalist Layla Demay has a different view of Clinton running France. In an article at the Huffington Post, Demay wrote she doubts anyone who doesn’t eat meat and dairy to ever hold such as position.
He used to eat burgers and steak and chicken enchiladas. According to CNN, “At one campaign stop in New Hampshire, he reportedly bought a dozen doughnuts and was working his way through the box until an aide stopped him.”
Today, Bill is a vegan and France simply can’t relate. As my friend Guillemette Faure, a French correspondent who covers French and American politics, noted, “You can’t rule France if you don’t eat dairy.”
President Charles de Gaulle once said: “How can you be expected to govern a country that has 246 kinds of cheese?”
So Bill, let me tell you: If you want to be president of France, you’d have to eat them all!
Not so, according to Vegan-France.com, which writes, “Most people will tell you that France is some kind of vegetarian hell. The aim of this site is to show that this is simply not true.”
The site the lists several vegan-friendly chain restaurants, stores and food brands that let the French and tourists be “bon vivants” of animal-free cuisine.

France was definitely not appropriate for vegetarians a few years ago, and sabsolutely not for vegans. Not it has changed a bit, it is very easy to be vegan in Paris and in other big cities it’s ok, but the stuff is that French are very conservative about food and it’s hard for people to understand that you don’t want to eat something good (tasty). It’s easier in Germany and England for instance.
In Paris now it looks more and more like VEGAN PARADISE (I’m exagerate but there are a few amazing places like Vegan Folie’s or Les saveurs végét’halles).

Hi,
Thanks for the mention! A very amusing article.
In reply to Vincent I would say that it’s true in almost every country that its much easier to be vegan in big cities but the point I try to make on my site is that in France in general it is becoming much, much easier as soya milk, tofu etc break into the mainstream. It’s becoming easier not so much because of a vegan/vegetarian movement but because of awareness around health, dietary issues etc. so I’m not sure either how well a vegan Presidential candidate would go down!
