The Perks of Being a Wallflower is out in theatres this Friday.
Based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, Perks is a classic tale of adolescents growing up starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller as main characters.
Mae Whitman plays Mary Elizabeth, described as a, “smart-talking vegetarian feminist with a tattoo, a belly button ring and a snobbish preference for indie girl bands.”
“She starts out so confident. I mean, she’s just the most opinionated girl in the world and everything she says goes,” the actress who’s had roles in Parenthood, Arrested Development and Scott Pilgram v. The World told MTV News.
If the catering on the set of Perks was anything like Parenthood, it probably wasn’t hard to Whitman to stay in character. She said the crew would sometimes bring in a raw chef and many of them were vegan, making it easier to eat at work.
