Sodexo Switching To 100% Cage-Free Eggs By 2014

Sodexo has been consistently improving its reputation as a food service company valuing both the vegetarian and animal welfare movements.
Last year, it launched Meatless Mondays in the cafeterias of hospitals and several of its big-named corporate clients like Toyota. Now, it’s announced it will serve only cage-free eggs to its over 10 million customers by July 2014.
“Shifting to cage-free eggs is just one more way Sodexo is proactively implementing commitments under the Better Tomorrow Plan, our roadmap for sustainability,” said Deborah Hecker, vice president, sustainability and CSR, Sodexo.
The Humane Society of the United States applauded the decision, stating it will improve the lives of thousands of farmed hens.
“We are grateful that the company has exhibited such leadership in improving the treatment of farm animals within its supply chain,” said Josh Balk, the director of corporate policy for the Humane Society of the United States
