Charlotte Ross, NYPD actress who had a spot on Glee, recently took some time to spend with her chimpanzee friends at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest in Washington state.
Ross kept Burrito and several of his friends known as the “Cle Elum Seven” company. The group has been retired after living for years at an animal research lab in Pennsylvania.
“I had the incredible opportunity to visit Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest where I was able to learn more about these magnificent creatures and the wonderful environment that sanctuaries are able to provide for them,” said Ross.
“I am more determined than ever to help pass the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act to allow the last few hundred chimps in U.S. laboratories to live out the rest of their days in a deserved paradise like this one.”
Both the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (H.R. 1513/S. 810) are highly beneficial to both animals and taxpayers. The pieces of legislation involve phasing out research on chimps and retiring 500 of the animals in government facilities to sanctuaries.
The estimated cost savings of retiring these chimps vs. keeping them in laboratories is about 25 million to U.S. taxpayers.
Last week, the bill was approved by the Senate Environment and Public Works committee and can now be considered by the full Senate.
