Quantcast Vegetarian StarJillian Michaels Gives Protein Advice In “Every Day Health” Column

Jillian Michaels

Jillian Michaels dispensed some valuable information on how a vegetarian can get their daily protein needs in her Everyday Health diet, nutrition and fitness column, Ask Julian.

“I’m a vegetarian — who also doesn’t eat seafood — so I’m constantly searching for good ways to get the protein I need,” writes the reader. “I find a lot of protein in soy products, but your plans recommend avoiding them. Any suggestions?”

Those looking to avoid soy should have no problem eating vegetarian, as Jillian reminds the reader there’s plenty of protein in whole grains, quinoa, nuts and other plant-based protein sources like pea.

She even recommends how to choose an incredible bean from an average one and gives advice on how food packaging can affect health too.

“In particular, try to choose black beans, peas, and chickpeas (think burrito, split-pea soup, and hummus) as they are far better than kidney, northern, navy, or lima beans which are higher in starch and contain less protein than the former suggestions. When consuming beans, buy in bulk. It’s cheaper and you avoid BPA toxins often contained in the linings of most canned products.”
