Some sandwiches on the menu at Brooklyn-based Hana Food have undergone name changes. After opening another larger establishment in the Bushwick area, the owner changed offensive sounding combos like “Gay Boy,” “Butter Face” and “The Illegal” to , “Garden Boy,” “Farmer’s Tan,” and “South of the Border.”
Two of these sandwiches are veggie-friendly.
The $7 Garden Boy is stuffed with, “egg, veggie bacon, veggie cheese, avocado, sprouts and sun dried tomato.”
The $6 Farmer’s Tan is a “wrap with veggie sausage, white eggs, avocado and sun-dried tomato.”
According to reviews on Yelp, some of Hana’s other sandwiches have equally provocative titles like “My Girlfriend is a Whore!”, “The Drunk Asshole”, “My Huge Sideburn”, and “Donkey Brains.”
Vegetarians may also want to sample the “Shrek Sandwich,” containing 2 slices of fried tofu with avocado, hummus, and spinach.
Owner James Lee explained to the New York Post why he did a title swap with the three sandwiches. “The people who work for me, they don’t like the names — so we changed.”
