American Idol runner up Crystal Bowersox married her musician boyfriend Brian Walker in an environmentally friendly ceremony this past weekend.
Bowersox’s dress was a hemp and cotton blend designed by Vermont designer Tara Lynn and featured macrame, seashell and bead detailing. Lynn’s studios are powered by solar energy. Lynn’s custom hemp wedding gowns start at around $1,500, and a collection of pre-determined designs ranging in size 2-14 are a more cost effective $600.
The reception was catered by a very vegan friendly bakery in Chicago, Bleeding Heart Bakery.
With locations in both the city and the suburb of Oak Park, Bleeding Heart features an almost entirely vegan selection of cupcakes, cakes, cookies and other desserts.
For sweets that aren’t vegan, Bleeding Heart uses dairy and eggs from Organic Valley Family of Farms.
Bleeding Heart Bakery offers custom ordering based on allergens like soy, wheat, peanut, gluten and also sugar-free selections.
Keeping it local, Bleeding Heart makes s’mores with Dandies, vegan marshmallows from Chicago Soy Dairy.
