Lisa Bloom Cooking Tip–Keep A Pantry Full Of Herbs

Legal analyst for CNN and CBS Lisa Bloom says don’t let her shark lawyer image fool you. She told Vegetarian Times in the October 2010 issue that although she’s thought of as a tough lawyer, she’s actually a marshmallow. “A vegan marshmallow, that is,” Bloom said. “Not the gelatin kind.”

This Sweet and Sara-esque lady gave cooking with fresh herbs as her #1 tip for great vegan food.

“Always have fresh herbs on hand, and when you add them to your cooking, it’s going to be good.”

There’s nothing fresher than what you grow, and VIVA! Gardens has compiled some tips for growing and harvesting herbs from several of their newsletters over the past years.

In August 2004, basil tips were given for the pasta, pizza and all things Italian lovers. Basil doesn’t tolerate dry conditions, so be sure to water regularly and place mulch around the plants. This discourages weeds and makes moisture even around the soil.

Sage, on the other hand, has low water requirements and is good for small garden areas, like rock gardens and drought tolerant gardens. The best time to harvest sage is in the morning after dew has evaporated.
