“Self Magazine” 66 Best Packaged Foods
Written by Vegetarian Star on June 24th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Nutrition-Health-Fitness.
Self Magazine searched for the healthiest packaged foods. Packaged is normally associated with health “no-nos” like partially hydrogenated oils, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup and a load of preservatives. But Self was able to find several items that escaped these horrors, and many on the list are vegetarian.
The Boca Savory Mushroom Mozzarella veggie burger came in first place for best veggie burger and it can easily be paired with the also featured Kettle Baked Slow Cooked Chips.
Kashi TLC Stonegrain 7 Grain crackers make for nice snack when you’re not ready for your veggie burger, with only 130 calories per serving of 4 crackers. Santa Cruz Organic Creamy Peanut Butter can be spread liberally between these for a protein rich munchie.
For the Best Frozen Veggie Meal, Lean Cusine Santa Fe Style Rice and Beans with 300 calories and 5 grams of fat makes a nice lunchbox addition when you’re sick of PB & J for work. What’s great about this choice is that although vegetarians normally purchase prepared and frozen meals from traditional meat-free companies like Amy’s, it’s good to know if your’re stuck at a grocery store where the only other veggie option is a can of beans, there’s a mainstream company that’s makes a suitable choice.
