Vegetarian Lauren Bush has recently launched another set of bags in her FEED Projects series, the FEED Guatemala bags, to help the United National Children’s Fund, UNICEF.
The “FEED Guatemala 1” and “FEED Guatemala 3” bags will provide daily nutrient powder for 1 or 3 children, respectively, in Guatemala for one year.
According to the Lord and Taylor website featuring the items, nearly 23% of children over three months and under 5 years suffer from some kind of malnutrition and almost half of children suffered from chronic malnutrition in 2006.
If the world refrained from eating meat, or at least ate less meat, that number could be a lot lower.
A report done by Compassion in World Farming estimated it takes about 16 pounds of grain just to produce 1 pound of animal flesh. And a Cornell University ecologist estimated that if every grain in the U.S. fed to livestock were fed to people, it would feed 800 million, while exporting these grains would boost U.S. trade by $80 billion.
The FEED Guatemala bags retail for around $19 for the small and $39 for the large sizes and may be purchased in stores and online at places like LordandTaylor.
