Dear Abby–Advice For The Vegetarian
Written by Vegetarian Star on January 21st, 2010 in Food & Drink, Pop Culture.
Are you a poor, lost vegetarian soul, constantly picked on by friends, family and everyone you meet?
Are you ready to give up the tempeh and bite into a burger at the family reunion because you can’t take it anymore?
The Dear Abby column might have advice you can use:
“I am 27 and have been a vegetarian for five years. I am trying to develop a thick skin when it comes to people who question or make fun of my choice, but I’m tired of laughing and letting the comments “roll off” my back.”
“What is the best response to people who are so rude about my choices?”
Dear Abby says take comfort in knowing there are growing numbers of people choosing to eschew meat and dairy for health and environmental reasons.
And tell that annoying grandpa to stick his dentures in it!
“Your grandfather may be trying to be humorous — or he may be showing concern because he comes from a generation that didn’t learn there can be benefits from a vegetarian diet. Because he’s getting under your skin, rather than take the bait, sit next to some other relatives at family events.”
