Obama Addresses Marines At Camp Lejeune

The Obama administration is calling for the stricter labeling of foods to show the origin of the country the food or animal is from.

While much of this law would apply to the meat industry, it would also apply to some perishable forms of fruits and vegetables.

“The bottom line is we think people have a right to know and they can act on it based on their own opinions and preferences,” said Patty Lovera of Food and Water Watch.

Whole Foods had an assortment of frozen vegetables in their freezer, including “California blend” vegetables, organically grown in China, which doesn’t have the same organic monitoring standards as the US.

Maybe the new legislation can require bigger letters for the labels as well.

Although the country of origin was noted on the package, most wouldn’t have thought to look for the tiny print on a blend of frozen “California” vegetables.

And most won’t be able to afford those veggies after the companies are required to meet a host of new obligations that don’t really tell you anything. Made in California or China, it doesn’t tell you anything about the quality of the food. Big letters or small, it doesn’t matter if you don’t read them (as most people don’t).

It doesn’t take a genius to look at all the problems China has had with contamination and food (melamine, etc.) to know some countries have better standards for making sure food is safe (no, not perfect, but who is).

Many products are already labeled (all the produce I buy-which happens to be organic) and there is no drastic difference in costs.

People do read those labels (or at least intelligent people making decisions about what to put in their and their families mouths) and they have a right to know.

Of course, I wouldn’t expect any of this to make sense to a “Lib” girl who is probably so liberal and ridiculous she thinks smokers have the right to smoke anywhere even if it intrudes on others and gives them allergy reactions, not to mention ups their risks for cancer, as some of you libertarians do.

Stick to fighting for human rights and don’t try to make decisions about issues you obviously aren’t educated about.
