British musician Brian May of rock band Queen poses in front of an animal rights billboard in London

“This is a disappointment, of course. But not just for thousands of innocent badgers. The irony is that it is ultimately a tragedy for farmers, too – the very farmers who have been pushing for badgers to be culled. The decision to cull cannot lead to any significant long-term gain in the fight against bovine TB, even with the complete extermination of our native badgers. I believe all this will be seen in a few years time for what it is … a tragic wrong turn which did nothing to solve the problem of TB in cattle.”

Brian May, Queen guitarist, PhD, vegetarian and animal activist on the recent decision of the a judge to reject a legal challenge against a cull of badgers in Wales in an attempt to control bovine TB.

Queen Performs in Milan

Vegetarian Queen rocker Brian May recently took the opportunity to give animal rights a promo on his website.

The guitarist praised The World Society of the Protection of Animals (WSPA) Animals Matter To Me campaign.

“Animals Matter To Me represents the biggest ever global animal welfare initiative, linking the entire animal welfare movement with ONE STRATEGIC GOAL: global recognition that animals are sentient beings, capable of feeling pain and suffering,” writes May.

The goal of “Animals Matter To Me” is to get 10 million signatures to be handed to government officials around the world, urging for a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the United Nations.

Hey, if you can play guitar in a band that spent more weeks on the UK album charts than the Beatles or Elvis Presley, helping to round up 10 million signatures should be no problem!
