Former Chicago Mayor Daley Loses Weight With Vegetarian China Diet

Former mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley took a trip to China to enjoy some time off and some good food. Did we mention he’s sporting a sexier look due to the vegetarian diet he adopted there?
Richard’s brother Bill Daley told the Chicago Sun-Times, “He has lost some weight. He went to China for two weeks, got on a vegetarian diet — that’s what you eat when you’re there.”
According to a few online sources, full-time vegetarians are not common in China, but that doesn’t mean the cuisine is not appreciated there. Quite the contrary.
In 2010, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao proposed a Meatless Monday initiative for the country, a “one day of vegetarianism every week,” in an effort to protect the environment.
The diet has also seen a rise in the middle class citizens who pay strict attention to health. In addition, an increase in illnesses normally associated with the standard American diet of heavy meat and fried foods, such as high blood pressure, has motivated many Chinese to trade the chicken and pork for tofu.
