Joanne Rose‘s Vegan 101 sketch comedy series took home several honors at the LA Web Series Festival earlier this week, including the title of Outstanding Sketch Comedy Series.
A satirical look at the vegan lifestyle, the first series of Vegan 101 created in 2009 consisted of six short episodes shot on a budget of less than $5,000.
“As a dedicated vegan since 1994, I am very passionate about my project and wanted to use humor to educate, entertain and inspire others about the vegan lifestyle, rather than use traditional ways,” Rose said.
Series two of Vegan 101 is expected to begin filming next week and will feature actor Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) playing a physician trying to convince his audience 3 vegan meals a day will keep the doctor away through his daytime talk show Eating Right.
The LA Web Series Festival is said to be the first in the world to dedicate an entire film festival to web-based movies and debuted in 2010.
